The seventh round offered a great, even though far from flawless, spectacle with five decisive games and only one draw, the record of militancy so far. The situation at the top remains intact as both leaders, Natalija Pogonina and Nana Dzagnidze, won with White against Humpy Koneru and Nino Batshiashvili, respectively. Their main followers are the Chinese players who both won today, Ju Wenjun with White against Antoaneta Stefanova and Zhao Xue against Pia Cramling with Black. The youngest player in the competition, Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, continues her ascension as she defeated Valentina Gunina with White. The only draw of the day was Harika Dronavalli - Natalija Zhukova, far from a cordial affair. |

Nana Dzagnidze in pole position |
The sixth round scheduled a few interesting games, such as an improvised China-India match, won by the former with 2-0 and the Russian derby. It is also worth mentioning that half today's games were practically decided in the opening. By defeating Natalia Zhukova with Black, Nana Dzagnidze caught up with Natalija Pogonina who drew her game (also with Black) against Valentina Gunina. Zhao Xue won against Harika Dronavalli with White and her colleague Ju Wenjun did the same against Humpy Koneru with Black. In Nino Batsiashvili - Sarasadat Khademalsharieh, the Iranian player scored her first full point in the tournament, reaching an excellent +1. Despite the peaceful result, Antoaneta Stefanova - Pia Cramling was one of the most original games so far! |

Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn |
After the refreshing free day, the players started the fifth round with renewed forces. Paradoxically, there was only one decisive game, but this was due to the increased degree of accuracy, as the fighting spirit was as high as ever. Natalija Pogonina's draw with White against Sarasadat Khademalsharieh maintains her on the leading position, while the same result against Zhao Xue keeps Nana Dzagnidze trailing her by half a point. Natalia Zhukova - Nino Batsiashvili, Ju Wenjun - Valentina Gunina and Pia Cramling vs Humpy Koneru were entertaining games despite the peaceful result. In the only decisive game, Harika Dronavalli defeated Antoaneta Stefanova after the Bulgarian chose an uninspired plan at an early stage. |

If I had to describe the day off excursion shortly I would call it... "too short"! This would by no means be a criticism but a confirmation of the fact that beautiful moments fly away too quickly. We had lunch at an authentic Iranian restaurant followed by a visit to the Molid Tower, one of Tehran's landmarks, visible on the tournament poster but also through the windows of our hotel rooms! |
